our story


Ever since my husband and I first met in 2005, we quickly discovered a shared passion for desi cuisine. Being desi, it came naturally to him, while I (a non-desi) absolutely loved the rich flavors of Indian and Pakistani food.

After just a few meals with family and friends, it became apparent to me that people had very different preferences for the cuisine. Some went for the vegetarian options while others preferred the grilled kebabs. Some preferred the cooling taste of the mild cucumber raita while others craved the spicy chutneys.

However, the plan to start Desi Shack did not materialize until several years later. As a corporate professional working in New York, it amazed me how many of my meals were consumed 'on the go.' The fast pace of life in the city and the demand for 'on the go' food options made me think how great it would be to create a quick service casual restaurant where people could enjoy my favorite cuisine in a portable format.



Desi Shack is the result of our love for desi food, our appreciation for how differently people enjoy the cuisine, and our desire for an 'on the go' offering that doesn't compromise on freshness or taste. Our simple menu offers endless choices. We serve fresh skewer-grilled food in an open kitchen, giving you the option to customize your meal the way you want it.
